This course requires an enrollment key This course examines the history and consequences of European and American colonialim in the Pacific region from the late 18th century to th present. This course focuses on developments on the Pacific coasts of America, the Pacific Islands, Australia, and New Zealand. Topics include Polynesian/European discourses about the Pacific as the "New World", missionaries and religious transformations, gender relations and the colonial process, cross-cultural trade, and European anthropology and Pacific peoples. Prerequisite: HIS 270, HIS 271.
